One might think it is “J” day, but that of course has come and gone. What showed up in a tree across the street from our house was this fledgling Bluejay – a young fellow who spent most of his one-half hour in the tree preening himself! I think he was trying to rid himself of all his baby feathers! Hope you enjoy these photos of this juvenile jay. He was so proud of himself!
I wish you enough. . .
I’m playing catch-up with blog posts, Paula….
Loved your photos of this young’un. He looks much like the Blue Jays we have here in Indiana, but only minimally akin to the Steller’s Jays we used to see in WA. John’s comment sent me looking and it seems that all Jays are in the crow family. I never knew that before reading here: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jay It’s 12:06 a.m. Saturday and I’ve already learned my “something new” for the day!
nice capture!
Paula, your bluejay looks nothing like our Jay. ours is a member of the crow family, and despit his beauty, hew steals eggs and young birds from other birds’ nests
Nice photo
John
What a beautiful baby, thanks for sharing photos of him with us.
That is a glorious jay, Paula!
So pretty!
Great photos! Oh, I miss seeing bluejays, none of them lives on the North…
He’s just taking his time getting ready for life as a bird. Beautiful pics
