I first read this story several years ago. It is in a book by David Sedaris – one of the funniest people on the planet – called “Me Talk Pretty One Day.” I just about expired from laughing. This 3-part audio rendition is worth every second of your time – just for the humor of it. As far as memoir/commentary writing goes, he is at the top of the “best of the best” list. Every single one of his books is worth not only reading, but buying, and suitable for re-reading, again and again. Many of you have probably either heard of, heard (on NPR perhaps), or read his now-famous “Santa Land Diaries.” (This story can be read in his books, “Holidays on Ice,” and in the aforementioned “Me Talk Pretty One Day.”)
You’ve finished overindulging at your holiday meal, ready for a nap, but before dropping off to a bloated sugarplum, candy cane dreamland, you’ve decided to turn on your computer, and check your e-mail. I can imagine your delight when you decide to take a chance on Paula’s “Reflections. . .” and find this gem. . .
So, now it’s off to nap land – you’ve had, for now – of everything – enough. . .
