Received the following video from a friend, and found Bernie Sanders (Senator from Vermont) to be once again a sane voice of reason and compassion. I’m sure there are those who do not agree. I am not one of them.
I pray that one day, all may be blesssed with enough. . .
45,000 people died from not getting to a doctor? This is one of those “shocking” satistics that really needs more details. How many of those people actually went to a doctor and were denied life-saving treatments? Certainly not all the 45, 000? That aside, I find it humorous to hear this senator, who compared to me, is no doubt “rich” speak of the the “rich getting richer” and he quotes Senator Rockefeller?! Rockefeller is synonymous with rich! Call me a cynic, but I don’t have much confidence in many government proposed solutions to problems these days and healthcare is no exception. I suspect that this plan will result in an even wider spread between the quality of care that the rich receive and that of the masses. I’d like for these senators to FIRST switch their healthcare plan to the one they propose to the masses, see how happy they are with it for say 3 – 5 years, then try to talk me into it.
P.S. I just re-watched the video and need to correct my statement a bit: Sanders did not quote Rockefeller, he thanked him. Also, I hope to moderate my somewhat hastily typed comment a bit by acknowledging that you Paula, having had many more experiences with medical matters will naturally have a different perspective from mine. And I respect that. I enjoy all your thought-provoking posts!
Thanks, Paula.
From an economic perspective, we cannot subsidize Health Care treatments for every illness and every body at every age. Sometimes the cost benefit analysis of saving one more life is outweighed by the cost to save that life. That’s just a fact of life.
For example, it doesn’t make sense to spend a million bucks to prolong the life of an 89 year old man who’s going to die of “old age” soon anyway.
That said, we can certainly do better.
And we should not be Taxing the Poor to Feed the Rich. I linked to my post on Real Reform:

Just about anything would be better at this point. Concentrating at first on preventoive care for everyone would cut our future expenses drastically.
That I would support 100%. Everyone should be able to have routine physicals, blood work, and NUTRITIONAL GUIDANCE.
Maybe then we could stem the tide of obesity and diabetes.

I’m amazed that such a rich country doesn’t have affordable health care. He’s a brave man.
It is a scandal as far as I am concerned. What kills me is that the Health Care plan that Obama finally managed to get passsed is in danger of being repealed by the Republicans. . .there seems to be no length to which some politicians will go to defeat their “enemies.” Even to the point of chewing off their own foot. And when they do, they better hope that there is some sort of health care legislation out there to cover the cost of foot repair. Of course, they will have plenty of money and a golden health insurance plan provided to congresspersons, so it’s no skin off their nose!
What an embarrassment for our country. . .
Bernie Sanders is a remarkable man, and one of my favoarite Senators. He’s from Vermont – a state in which I used to live, so he is near and dear to my heart! He is a maverick who always sticks to his guns! Bravo!
I liked this very much.
Me too! I love Bernie Sanders’ politics!
