“. . .Then God said, ‘Let the earth put forth vegetation: plants yielding seed, and fruit trees of every kind on earth that bear fruit with the seed in it.’ And it was so. The earth brought forth vegetation: plants yielding seed of every kind, and trees of every kind bearing fruit with the seed in it. And God saw that it was good. And there was evening and there was morning, the third day.” (Genesis 1:11-13 (NRSV))
With the help of unseen hands we plant,
nurture to bloom, or feed to fruit. The skills honed over the millenia
if we proceed with care, we are partners in bringing forth
the beauty we planned.
On the third day of this earth’s creation,
God brought forth with but a word
the seed of all we now love as sacred garden,
or all we revile as weeds.
Our arrogance has blinded us to the essential beauty
of all we have been given, freely, by grace of the Creator.
Forget not the wild flowers that
God brought forth from the beginning,
nor fail to see in its seeds all that we sow in our gardens today.
With thanksgiving, remember
God saw, God sees now and ever will, “It is good.”
