A friend shared the following poster with me recently, which, when viewed in conjunction with reading the linked article on Plutocracy, is a gold mine of pithy, witty quotations and other writing. I do hope you will link to Mr. James Harbeck’s amazing article, and read it in its entirety. I recommend very highly, his blog, Sesquiotica, to everyone who loves words, language, and the language of language! Pop over and enjoy, right after inhaling this solemn truth:
Now, on to Plutocracy.
Still, as always, I wish you enough. . .
Hi Paula it is so nice to meet you. Thank you for finding me. Positive Thoughts Positive Life. Your Blog is Fantastic. And your last post really touches me. I have a mission at the moment of getting 1000 umbrellas for the homeless in our city to have a bit of shade. Sounds like you and I both care. Have a wonderful day. And Please Stay in touch.
Rebecca
Good to see you in here, Paula. Thanks for sharing Mr. Melville’s quote and Mr. Harbeck’s post. Both provide a lot of food for thought.
Glad you’re back. A philosophy question after reading that… Is God the biggest plutocrat?
Hmmm, Doug. You tell me.
Okay. Of course I try to stick to the black and white like Melville but things are not that easy. People make up words they think will be the all inclusive explanation of a thought or an ideal or a theory but likewise words can often cut two ways. That may be defined by either of which side of any particular fence you are on or by which side of the fence you think you are on. Others may hold differing thoughts. This relativity is called attitude. It is built into some words. If I have a bad attitude about something or someone then I have a hate word I can use for that relative position. If my attitude is the opposite then I have a love word I can use for that position. However, me, and my position are exactly the same. The same relativity as everyone’s. It is all in the attitude. So the answer concerning use of love/hate words in description is solely personal. Being a poet I study this. The facts, Ma’am, just the facts. God uses us and everything we have, make, and do to fulfill his desires. Sounds Plutarchical. That may be good for some and bad for others. Depends on each attitude. If God did not ask, take or use anything we can provide him with to perform his creation then we might have a cesspool. Depends on relative attitude. Maybe this is a cesspool. I think God is beneficent. (A love word) Anyone can be in that attitude group. Power does not define it.
